9:00-10:00 Registration

10:00-10:30 Latest Regulatory Hot Topics with Interventional Radiology

Discussion on the latest updates from CMS and/or third party payers regarding radiology coding and billing.

10:30-11:30 Non-Coronary Vascular Stent Placement

Discussion on all types of non-coronary vascular stent placement procedures and the coding rules applicable to each. In addition, the anatomical consideration will be discussed in relationship to the stent placement CPT codes.

11:30-12:00 Lunch (provided)

12:00-1:00 Cervicocerebral Arteriography

Education on the normal and aberrant cervicocerebral anatomy related to coding selective catheter placement. The rules for coding diagnostic angiography of the cervical and cerebral carotid arteries, arch aorta, vertebral arteries, cerebral arteries, brachiocephalic artery and subclavian arteries are explained in detail, followed by numerous case studies to assist the student in determining from a physician report the appropriate codes to assign for the case.

1:00-2:30 Nonselective Catheter Placements/Selective Catheter Placements

Education on all types of non-coronary vascular stent placement procedures and the coding rules applicable to each. In addition, the anatomical consideration will be discussed in relationship to the stent placement CPT codes.

2:30-2:45 Break

2:45-3:45 Cardiac Catheterization

Education on the components that comprise diagnostic cardiac catheterization. All rules governing coding of cardiac catheterization procedures are discussed. Case examples are presented to assist the student in converting a physician report to CPT codes describing all services provided.

About the Speaker

David Zielske, MD, CIRCC, CPC-H, CCS, CCS, RCC

Dr. David Zielske (Dr. Z) is the founder and President of ZHealth Publishing.  As the primary author and editor of each ZHealth publication, Dr. Z works closely with his knowledgeable staff, which is comprised of vascular surgeon, David Dunn, MD, FACS, CIRCC, CPC-H, CCC, CCS, RCC; interventional cardiologist, Don Crumbo, MD, FACC, CPC-H; and radiology coding professional, Ruth Broek, MBA, RT(R), CIRCC, CHC, CCS.  Together they combine for more than 50 years of medical coding experience.

Both Dr. Z and Dr. Dunn have become much sought after speakers in their areas of coding expertise to such conferences as National American Academy of Professional Coders and American Health Information Management Association.

Dr. Z first got involved in CPT coding of interventional radiology procedures in 1992 after he convinced his radiology group that the complexity of their interventional procedures coupled with the complexity of CPT component coding was resulting in significant miscoding and lost reimbursement.  From that point on, Dr. Z reviewed every case within his group for appropriate coding and now has coded well over 250,000 interventional radiology, cardiovascular, and electrophysiology cases.

Dr. Z had practiced as an interventional radiologist for fifteen years. He is Board Certified in Radiology with the certification of Added Qualification (CAQ) in Interventional Radiology (ABR).  Dr. Z has his CIRCC, CPC-H, CCC, CCS, and RCC certifications and was on the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC) National Advisory Board from 2005-2009.

A member of the Society of Interventional Radiology (SIR), American Medical Association (AMA), American College of Radiology (ACR), Radiological Society of North America (RSNA), Radiology Business Managers’ Association (RBMS), and the American Academy of Professional Coders (AAPC), Dr. Z has functioned as an independent radiology and cardiovascular coding consultant to a variety of physician groups and hospital providers across the country and has served as an instructor at over 100 CME programs.

A graduate of Oregon State University and Oregon State Sciences University School of Medicine, Dr. Z completed his internship, radiology residency, and interventional radiology fellowship at Emory University Hospital in Atlanta, Georgia.
