Directs and coordinates all medical record information and activities for University Medical Center.
The Coordinator of Medical Records supports the delivery of health care by developing, organizing, implementing, and maintaining health information systems for accurate storage and retrieval of medical information in accordance with the standards of the College of Community Health Sciences. This position serves as an internal consultant on medical records, release of information, confidentiality, information security, information storage and retrieval, and record retention as well as authorship and authentication of health record documentation. This position partners with various stakeholders to develop, enhance and manage the patient document management system using medical records best practices and current standards and stays abreast of upgrades and enhancements to the electronic health record system to ensure full utilization of the document management system.
Required Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of experience in a medical records environment to include three years of supervisory experience.
Skills and Knowledge: Knowledge of Alabama law and health records. Knowledge and the ability to apply principles of health information management, project management, and change management. Knowledge of electronic health record system.
Successful completion of the Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) exam. Five (5) years’ experience in a Health Information Management (HIM) supervisory position, with a minimum of three (3) years’ experience as director of HIM.
Bachelor’s degree and five (5) years of experience in a medical records environment to include three years of supervisory experience.
