Job Description:
Responsible for the coordination of work performance of the Health Information Management Department including coding and abstracting of health information, transcription, documentation completion, vital events, electronic medical record, release of information, clinical documentation improvement, medical necessity review and compliance, outpatient infusion/injection charges, performance improvement, inpatient and outpatient medical record audits, audit results review and appeals. Compiles, aggregates and analyzes data to verify correct and optimum coding. Responsible for accurate compilation of the monthly statistical report for all Russell Medical. Ensures health information documentation complies with hospital policies and procedures, State and Federal regulations and Joint Commission standards.
Required Qualifications:
Experience: Minimum of five (5) years of supervisory experience in a health information management department in an acute care setting.
Licenses, Certifications, and/or Registrations: Current designation as a Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA) or Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT) by the American Health Information Management Association or comparable license, certification or registration.
Equipment/Tools/Work Aids: Personal computer, hospital information system (HIS) applications, 3M encoding software, compliance software, Craneware chargemaster toolkit (CMT), Experian eCareNext, Microsoft Office software, M*Modal, Iatrics Data/Paperstore, RLSolutions and Verge.
Specialized Knowledge and Skills: Knowledge of health record applications. Knowledge of Joint Commission standards. Knowledge of CMS Conditions of Participation. Knowledge of Federal and State regulations applicable to privacy, release of information, patient access and coding and reimbursement. Leadership skills and management experience. Self-motivated with ability to work independently. Excellent verbal and written communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to organize and prioritize workload. Ability to complete work thoroughly and accurately.
Education Qualifications:
Education: Bachelor of Science Degree in Health Information Management or Associate of Science Degree in Health Information Technology (RHIA or RHIT) or comparable education and credential.
